{"id":749,"date":"2016-04-01T20:24:25","date_gmt":"2016-04-01T20:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/?page_id=749"},"modified":"2018-09-25T11:16:49","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T15:16:49","slug":"services-for-faculty","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/appalachian-center-home\/services-for-faculty\/","title":{"rendered":"Services for Faculty"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Loyal Jones Appalachian Center can help you integrate the Appalachian region into your teaching or scholarship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning Resources and Information<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Appalachian Center can connect you with resources to support your teaching.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/home\/artifacts\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/home\/artifacts\/\">Appalachian Artifacts Collection<\/a>\u00a0has been used to support classes and research across the campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/home\/the-ljac-gallery\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/home\/the-ljac-gallery\/\">Appalachian Gallery<\/a>\u00a0is full of dynamic exhibits that can complement your own classroom work.\u00a0 It is a perfect place to meet your class for a film or a guest lecture with one of the faculty or staff from the Center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/home\/faber-library\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/home\/faber-library\/\">Faber Library<\/a>\u00a0(with handcrafted furniture and natural lighting) serves as \u201cone stop shop\u201d for:\n<ul>\n<li>researching\u00a0Appalachia<\/li>\n<li>housing hundreds of books<\/li>\n<li>magazines<\/li>\n<li>DVDs<\/li>\n<li>CDs<\/li>\n<li>newsletters related to the Appalachian region and issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Items do not circulate but can be used in the Faber.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let us help you find the resources and information you need to include the region in your teaching or scholarship. \u00a0If we don\u2019t have it ourselves, chances are Hutchins Library Special Collections or another regional collection does!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Expertise and Networking<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Loyal Jones Appalachian Center has in-house expertise available for guest lectures, class discussions\u00a0or consultation. Topics are endless, but here are some possibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Appalachian Studies<\/li>\n<li>Sustainability and environmental issues<\/li>\n<li>Race in Appalachia<\/li>\n<li>Material Culture study<\/li>\n<li>Leadership and Entrepreneurship<\/li>\n<li>Community Economic Development<\/li>\n<li>Appalachian Literature<\/li>\n<li>Appalachian Music and Dance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We can also connect you with others on campus, in the region\u00a0and in the Appalachian Studies community who share your research or project interests. We would welcome the opportunity to help you infuse Appalachian topics and materials into your own course. Just give us a call.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;750&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong>Support for Regional Scholarship and Research<\/strong><br \/>\nRecently, we\u2019ve started a faculty development program that we call\u00a0<em>Appalachian Fellows.<\/em>\u00a0 Berea faculty are eligible to apply by contacting the Director of the Center.\u00a0 For 2010-2011, Dr. Scott Steele and Dr. Kate Egerton are Appalachian Fellows.\u00a0 Each is working on a special project in Appalachia, with support from the Center.<\/p>\n<p>Here are other ways the Center can support Berea faculty:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/home\/loyal-jones-appalachian-center-funding\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/appalachian-center\/home\/loyal-jones-appalachian-center-funding\/\">funds to help faculty (and students<\/a>) attend or present at the annual Appalachian Studies Conference. For more information on the annual Appalachian Studies Conference, see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.appalachianstudies.org\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.appalachianstudies.org\/\">www.appalachianstudies.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>We can help you or your students prepare a proposal to present at the annual Appalachian Studies Conference.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>We have limited funds to support research projects that involve the Appalachian Region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>We can also help connect you with regional publishers and journals that may publish your work related to the region.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Interested research or travel in Appalachia?
