7:57 AM<\/strong>
\nThe mountains are still asleep
\nThe dense fog dissipates into the low-lying valleys
\nAfter the delicate dew had been ignited
\nBy the waking West Virginian Sun
\nHush now,
\nyou\u2019ll wake the baby<\/p>\n

7:58 AM<\/strong>
\nJesus told Noah to build the Ark on the
\nDriest of days
\nBut spoke not a word
\nTo the backwaters preacher<\/p>\n

7:59 AM<\/strong>
\nDisregard them living downstream
\nDon\u2019t need no permit for Disaster
\nConcrete promises
\nCollapse<\/p>\n

8:00 AM<\/strong>
\nCan\u2019t make it
\nTo higher ground
\nSwept under sludge
\nThat we have created
\nA twenty foot wave made of
\nThe byproduct of generations<\/p>\n

****<\/p>\n

\u201cA bridge collapses.
\nAn airplane crashes.
\nA coal mine explodes
\nAnd dams fail.
\nAnd people die.\u201d
\nSpat Governor Ad Hoc
\nIn his Official Report<\/p>\n

132 million gallons unleashed
\n118 lives lost
\n4,000 people left homeless<\/p>\n

An act of God, Governor said
\nGod\u2019s grace don\u2019t reach the valley
\nThat\u2019s why we call it
\nWest by God Virginia<\/p>\n

Think of all them youngins
\nHad their little lungs not been filled
\nMud and soot
\nAnd had their brittle bones been left uncrushed
\nBy the aluminum casing of their homes<\/p>\n

To miss out on
\nWatching their daddy\u2019s
\nbreak their backs in the mines
\nWhile being nickeled and dimed<\/p>\n

To be diagnosed with cancer
\nCause they got genetic pools like
\nSlurry ponds<\/p>\n

And the only remorse to be found
\nFrom Buffalo Creek Mining
\nAnd the Pittston Company
\nWas the fact they killed off
\nThe next batch of workers<\/p>\n
