The club is mostly comprised of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/bio\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/bio\">biology<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/chm\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/chm\">chemistry<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/psy\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/psy\">psychology<\/a>\u00a0majors with an emphasis in pre-medical study. Dr. Dawn Anderson is our senior pre-medical\/dental advisor as well as the club\u2019s faculty advisor. The Pre-Med\/Dent Club is in affiliation with the\u00a0American Medical Student Association\u00a0(AMSA). AMSA is an organization that serves pre-medical and medical students nationwide. For more information about AMSA, visit their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amsa.org\/\">website<\/a>. The Pre-Med\/Dent Club also participates in community service projects. The club will team up with other organizations such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Boys &amp; Girls Club,<\/li>\n<li>Habitat for Humanity,<\/li>\n<li>Biology Club, and<\/li>\n<li>the Area Health Education Center (AHEC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In doing this, we hope to provide an environment to support health education and increase knowledge of health issues facing the community.<\/p>\n<p>The primary mission of the Pre-Medical \/ Dental Club\u00a0is to provide a forum for pre-medical\/dental students to develop their understanding of the medical profession and the impact they can have as physicians on their community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goals for Pre-Medical \/ Dental Club<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Provide a forum for pre-med\/dent students to support our education here and after Berea College.<\/li>\n<li>Take field trips to medical and dental institutions to get a feel for the professional arena.<\/li>\n<li>Discuss relevant issues that face the community such as primary vs. specialty care, alternate health careers, medical ethics, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in events with a scientific or medically oriented nature.<\/li>\n<li>Have fundraising activities.<\/li>\n<li>Initiate and maintain a Berea chapter with AMSA.<\/li>\n<li>To promote cohesive relations among current and prospective medical\/dental students.<\/li>\n<li>Have fun!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Ideas for the\u00a0Future<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We intend to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Become involved with the Berea chapter of the American Red Cross.<\/li>\n<li>Sponsor speakers on relevant issues such as admission to medical\/dental school, medical ethics, alternate medical fields, substantial financial assistance for medical\/dental education, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Become involved with the Biology Club.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate field trips to various medical\/dental schools such as: University of Virginia, University of Pikeville, University of Louisville, and the university of Kentucky, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why You Should Be Involved<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whether you are a science major hoping to become a medical professional or just someone who wants to make a difference to those around you, the Pre-Medical\/Dental Club provides an environment of learning and giving. These experiences will help prepare you for further usefulness to the community. Another reason for you to be an active member of this organization is to provide fresh ideas and enthusiasm for the enrichment of your undergraduate experience. Becoming an active member today will equip you with tools and vision for tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meeting Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meetings will be advertised on week prior to the scheduled meeting time.
