[vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section title=”The People Ready Communities Leadership Program & How to Apply” tab_id=”1678205491667-3e48506a-b34a”][vc_column_text]The People Ready Communities Leadership Program brings together <\/span>community members<\/span> who make a six<\/span>–<\/span>month commitment<\/span> to grow <\/span>their<\/span> leadership skills and complete<\/span> a hands<\/span>–<\/span>on project<\/span> that supports <\/span>building<\/span> a vibrant economy<\/span>.<\/span> The work<\/span> unites<\/span> sectors that ar<\/span>e not <\/span>normally considered to be<\/span> in economic development but that are on <\/span>the front lines of welcoming new workers,<\/span> supporting local <\/span>businesses, and<\/span> creating<\/span> inclusi<\/span>ve pathways<\/span> for all people to<\/span> thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n

What will you gain?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The People Ready Communities Leadership Program strengthens practical leadership skills and offers <\/span>innovative perspectives.<\/span> You<\/span> will:<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/span> Deepen your understanding of the connection between quality of life and economic<\/span>
development, particularly<\/span> considering<\/span> what is important to entrepreneurs, industry, remote<\/span>
workers, and tourism initiatives.
\n<\/span>
2.<\/span> Explore and enhance your leadership strengths and the skills that allow you to make a<\/span>
difference.
\n<\/span>
3.<\/span> Engage<\/span> your personal leadership strengths<\/span> on<\/span> an action-oriented community team that expresses<\/span>
a vision of what it means for your community to be People Ready and carries out a project that<\/span>
supports that vision.
\n<\/span>
4.<\/span> Connect<\/span> with other leaders<\/span>\u2014<\/span>both at home and across<\/span> the region<\/span>\u2014<\/span>who are working to create a<\/span>
community economic narrative that portrays welcoming<\/span> places<\/span> and innovative approaches to<\/span>
economic development.<\/span><\/p>\n

What will you<\/span> experience?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

You will join a team of 15 people from your community for a six-month leadership experience. The<\/span>
People Ready Communities Program allows for active participation that is engaging and applicable to<\/span>
making a difference in your community.<\/span><\/p>\n

The People Ready Communities Leadership Program includes the following activities:
\n<\/span>
1.<\/span> An orientation meeting in<\/span> your<\/span> community, in March 2023<\/span> (2 hours)<\/span>
2.<\/span> An opening workshop on the Berea College campus, April 13-15, 2023<\/span> (2.5 days)<\/span>
3.<\/span> A six-month project<\/span> in your community<\/span> (6 to<\/span> 8<\/span> hours per month, depending on the project)<\/span>
4.<\/span> A mid-term workshop in<\/span> your<\/span> community, between June-August 2023<\/span> (4 to 6 hours)<\/span>
5.<\/span> A closing workshop<\/span> on the Berea College campus, October 20-21, 2023<\/span> (1.5 days)<\/span><\/p>\n

What will you pay?
\n<\/span><\/strong>
The People Ready Communities Program has<\/span> no fee<\/span> and covers lodging and meal costs during the <\/span>workshops. Upon request,<\/span> fellowship<\/span> stipends are available to cover transportation, childcare, or other <\/span>participation costs. The program requires a commitment of time and energy over the six months to grow <\/span>connections, build skills, and complete a community project.

About Brushy Fork Leadership Institute and the People Ready Communities Leadership Program
\n<\/span><\/strong>
For more than 34 years, the Brushy Fork Leadership Institute, a Strategic Initiative of Berea College,<\/span> has <\/span>offered leadership and community development opportunities throughout central Appalachia. The People <\/span>Ready Communities Leadership Program is supported by the Appalachian Regional Commission, the <\/span>Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, and other private funders.<\/span><\/p>\n

DAY 2: Friday, April 14th (full day)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\n12:00 pm Lunch
\n1:00 pm Afternoon sessions
\n5:30-6:30 pm Evening activities (optional; choose one)
\nCrafts Outreach broom making activity
\nHistorical Walking Tour of Berea College campus

DAY 3: Friday, April 15th (half day)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This parking pass may be found here<\/a>. If you forget or are unable to print one, a pass will be available for pickup at the workshop registration table.<\/p>\n

Please use the following campus map<\/a> in order to locate visitors parking lots on Berea College’s campus. Brushy Fork is not responsible for any parking violations or ticketing that results in failure to follow campus policy parking procedures, and cannot reimburse you or have parking tickets forgiven. This also applies for the two-hour parking spaces around town. Please use the campus visitors lot to ensure your convenience.
