The awards are funded by endowments from donors to Berea College, and the focus of each award was chosen by the donors.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][\/vc_tta_accordion][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243; offset=&#8221;vc_hidden-sm vc_hidden-xs&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">BONNER<br \/>\nSCHOLARS<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1021&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_circle_2&#8243; onclick=&#8221;custom_link&#8221; link=&#8221;https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/celts\/bonner-scholars-program\/&#8221;][vc_column_text]Berea College was the first institution chosen to participate in the Bonner Scholars Program. It first took part in the fall of 1990. The Corella and Bertram Bonner Foundation of Princeton, New Jersey established the program. After working with John Stephenson, then President of Berea, the foundation determined that Berea\u2019s history, reputation, and commitment to the ethic of service made it the ideal institution to launch the program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Berea Bonners<\/strong>\u00a0are part of a nationally recognized network of student leaders. These students\u00a0share a reputation for outstanding leadership on their respective campuses.\u00a0They display a commitment to make a difference in the communities and organizations they serve.[\/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion shape=&#8221;square&#8221; active_section=&#8221;0&#8243; collapsible_all=&#8221;true&#8221;][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;How to Apply&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1637080629011-2a3aaedf-b4f7&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>The application process for the Bonner Scholars Program is competitive and highly selective. Bonner Scholars are chosen from the incoming class of First Year students, and each year only 15 students are selected to join the program. Each Bonner Scholar must have a labor position in service either at the College or in the community. Additionally, Bonners must complete two Summers of Service. Here, they spend seven weeks engaged in regional, national or international communities beyond Berea. For most Bonners, the commitment to service goes well beyond requirements. It first took part in the fall of 1990. The Corella and Bertram Bonner Foundation of Princeton, New Jersey established the program. After working with John Stephenson, then President of Berea, the foundation determined that Berea\u2019s history, reputation, and commitment to the ethic of service made it the ideal institution to launch the program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Berea Bonners<\/strong> are part of a nationally recognized network of student leaders.
