This is the\u00a0campus\u00a0update for\u00a0Monday,\u00a0November\u00a01, 2021.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s hard to believe that we have gone over 600 days now!<\/p>\n
One on-campus student tested positive this morning and will be quarantining.\u00a0 Over the weekend, we have two new positive test results among on-campus employees, one faculty member in HHP and one staff member in Hafer Gibson, and one close contact.\u00a0 Hopefully, none of these cases will become serious.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, it was announced today as well, that a child in attendance at the CDL has tested positive for COVID 19. Two classrooms(132 and 136) will have to be closed until next Tuesday.\u00a0 Our thanks to the staff of the CDL for their good work operating as safely as possible under these challenging circumstances.\u00a0 It has been verified that there are no unvaccinated close contacts among the staff of the CDL.<\/p>\n
Our overall employee vaccination percentage remains at 90%, and, for non-PFE employees, our percentage rounds to 92%.<\/p>\n

Declining case numbers continue in our county and state.\u00a0 Madison County had a total of\u00a0144 new cases for the week ending yesterday.\u00a0 This is down by 18 from last week and\u00a0lowers\u00a0the average number of new cases per day to\u00a021, which keeps us in the\u00a0Orange<\/strong> zone.\u00a0 The department also reports that at this point 46% of county residents have been fully vaccinated.\u00a0 (This percentage decreased by 5% from last week, so initially I thought that meant that children 5-11 years old were now included in the denominator, but then I learned that Kentucky has reported an error in tracking vaccination percentage, double counting the vaccinations reported by Kroger.)\u00a0 Alas, we have had \u00a0five more deaths in the county in the last week, which brings the total to 162.<\/p>\n Kentucky reported 8,629\u00a0new cases for the\u00a0week\u00a0ending today for an average of\u00a01,233\u00a0cases\/day,\u00a0down by about 10%\u00a0from last week\u2019s number.\u00a0 The Commonwealth has reported\u00a0174 deaths over the last\u00a0week\u00a0for an average number of deaths\/day of\u00a025, so that number has finally started to decline.\u00a0 (It had been about 35\/day for the last three weeks.)\u00a0 The latest\u00a0test positivity rate\u00a0has decreased to 5.03%.\u00a0\u00a0 We continue to move in the right direction, albeit rather slowly.<\/p>\nVaccination policy at other colleges and universities<\/h2>\n
