{"id":37,"date":"2016-05-20T13:53:24","date_gmt":"2016-05-20T13:53:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.berea.edu\/emerging-scholars\/?page_id=37"},"modified":"2022-05-17T11:05:13","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T15:05:13","slug":"37-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/emerging-scholars\/37-2\/","title":{"rendered":"What We Do"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]ESP\u2019s mission is to provide a support system that assists students in achieving academic, personal, financial, social, and career planning goals.<\/p>\n<p>The Berea College Emerging Scholars Program is your \u201cgo-to\u201d place for resources, referrals, information across the Berea community, and individualized service.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;97&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;195&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]ESP assists students by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing academic, career &amp; personal guidance<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in setting and attaining ambitious academic goals<\/li>\n<li>Exploring &amp; identifying career interests and setting career goals<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in pre- and post-advising<\/li>\n<li>Supporting adjustments to campus life<\/li>\n<li>Developing studying &amp; test taking skills and strategies<\/li>\n<li>Arranging tutoring &amp; study groups<\/li>\n<li>Understanding financial literacy<\/li>\n<li>Clarifying college policies and procedures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=&#8221;One-on-One Support&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;207&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Each ESP student will work one-on-one with an academic counselor to develop a Success Plan designed specifically to address the student&#8217;s individual needs and support their holistic success.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=&#8221;A Chance to Get an Early Start&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]Incoming Emerging Scholars will have the chance to participate in our ESP Kickoff. This event takes place a few days before Berea College&#8217;s Orientation, giving ESP students the chance to move-in early, explore campus, and get to know other Emerging Scholars before other students arrive.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;191&#8243; img_size=&#8221;Medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=&#8221;Grow as a Student, Scholar, and Person&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;192&#8243; img_size=&#8221;Large&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]From cultural trips to self-care events, the Emerging Scholars Program offers plenty of opportunities to help navigate college and beyond.
