YFCY is a national survey designed specifically to assess the academic and personal development of students during the first year of college.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/CIRPYFCYChangeGraphs.pdf\">CIRP\/YFCY Change Report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Enrolled Students&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;2&#8243;][vc_toggle title=&#8221;National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012316963-b3f9f90c-bc02&#8243;]Berea students have participated in NSSE five times (Spring terms 2003, 2007, 2010, 2014, and 2019). The Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory was used along with a Berea-specific survey to assess a wide array of areas on campus.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/SSIReport2013.pdf\">Student Satisfaction Inventory Report, 2013<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/satisfactionreport2008.pdf\">Student Satisfaction Inventory Report, 2008<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/s.satisfaction.pdf\">Student Satisfaction Inventory Report, 2003<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/COSEReport1998.pdf\">Committee on Student Experiences (COSE) Report, 1998<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Degrees of Preparation Survey&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012502178-e222ef10-30d4&#8243;]This survey was designed by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) to assess students\u2019 preparation for workplace success and civic engagement at entry (first-year students) and at graduation (seniors).\u00a0 The survey asks students to indicate how they inform themselves about current events and determine the credibility of sources (analysis skills).\u00a0 It also asks about students\u2019 experiences with travel, languages, international issues, service and study abroad as well as their participation in politics and\/or government, and their skills related to resolving conflicts and working with others.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/degreesofpreparationreport.pdf\">Degrees of Preparation Survey Report, Spring 2009<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Counseling and Psychological Services Survey&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012543544-ae392cdf-f67e&#8221;]Berea students were asked in Spring 2006 to provide feedback about the Counseling and Psychological Services.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/CounselingPsychologicalServicesReport1.pdf\">Counseling and Psychological Services Survey Report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Graduating Seniors&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;3&#8243;][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Value Changes Survey&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012655074-fbd29903-ffbb&#8221;]First-year students and graduating seniors at Berea College rate the importance of 22 value statements related to the mission of the College. The report examines the changes made by students from their first year to graduation. The value statements include items such as, \u201cGetting a good education,\u201d \u201cProtecting the natural environment,\u201d \u201cDeveloping a strong spiritual self,\u201d and \u201cVolunteering service to my community.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/s.enter_.exit_.value_.changes.pdf\">Rating the Importance of 22 Value Statements: Changes Made by Berea College<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Alumni&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;4&#8243;][vc_toggle title=&#8221;ACT Alumni Survey&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012750317-64518baf-e9dc&#8221;]Berea College alumni were asked to complete a national comprehensive questionnaire two years after graduation. The survey assessed basic demographics, continuing education, college experiences, employment history, and specific aspects of Berea College (i.e. convocations, labor, etc). This survey was administered to alumni from 1999-2000 through 2005-06.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/20090828-alumnisurvey.pdf\">ACT Alumni Survey, Graduate Trend Report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;ACT Appalachian Region Alumni Outcomes Survey&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012809560-2080cd50-7427&#8243;]This survey was aimed at graduates from 5, 15, and 25 years ago and was conducted in academic year 2000-01.\u00a0 The study focused on graduates from Appalachian colleges and universities and was designed to learn more about their educational, social, and economic impact on the region. Berea College participated with 33 other colleges and universities in the Appalachian region and comparative results are presented.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/ACAStudyResults.pdf\">Appalachian College Association (ACA) Alumni Outcomes Report <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/s.aca_.pdf\">Appalachian Region Alumni Outcomes Survey Presentation<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Selected Student Groups&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;5&#8243;][vc_toggle title=&#8221;African-American Student Study&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012911263-14f32e11-4d54&#8243;]A special study was conducted in Spring 2003 to address what attracts African Americans to Berea and helps retain them on a predominantly &#8220;white&#8221; campus.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/s.aastudy.pdf\">African-American Student Study Report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Student Learning Initiatives and Course Assessment&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;6&#8243;][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Universal Access Assessment Project&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012941158-caa575fb-bf67&#8243;]In Fall Term 2001, about 400 students received a laptop computer as part of their enrollment in specific courses. The \u201cpilot\u201d phase of the Universal Access Project was intended to work out technical difficulties and to assess the impact of laptop computers on learning in the classroom. Beginning in Fall 2002, all students on campus were issued a laptop computer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/s.laptop.pilot_.pdf\">Results of Universal Access Assessment Pilot Project<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This report outlines the major features of Berea College&#8217;s Universal Access program. It describes 1) how laptop computers have been given to all students (along with training), 2) the wide variety of faculty development programs aimed at technology, and 3) assessment strategies used to evaluate the program&#8217;s impact on student learning.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/s.universal.access.pdf\">Universal Access at Berea College Progress Report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Teaching Basic Mathematics: A Comparison of Two Formats (Textbook vs. Technology)&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497012998967-3bd6bd82-56ed&#8221;]An experimental study was designed to assess success in basic mathematics; the study compared students taught using a computerized multimedia instruction system versus those taught using a self-paced system without computerized assistance.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.berea.edu\/ira\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/04\/s.basicmath.tecnology.vs_.textbook.pdf\">Teaching Basic Math: A Comparison of Two Formats (Textbook vs. Technology)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=&#8221;Teaching Natural Science to Non-Majors: A Comparison of Formats (Team of Experts vs. Individual Instructor)&#8221; el_id=&#8221;1497013058333-31ac0814-a752&#8243;]At Berea College a general education course, Natural Science, was taught for 15 years in a \u201cgreat masters\u201d format in which several scientists delivered lectures addressing major areas. Recently, individual instructors began to teach individual sections.
