Biography

As an assistant professor in the Business and Economics department, my role is to teach management of information systems (MIS) and data analytics both from the business and the computer science perspectives. All but one of my classes are cross-listed with the computer science department, including Computer Applications & Programming, Data Analytics, Management of Information Systems & E-Commerce. Each of these classes, along with my Management class, is taught from a data science perspective, incorporating high levels of analytics for datasets from all aspects of society such as business management, non-profit organizations, financial institutions, sports, politics, government, etc.

The context of my work is informed by the early years of my career working in the information systems and data science industries as a Systems Engineer at IBM. My role was to provide systems design, integration and maintenance of large computer systems in the corporate setting. These corporate entities were in many of the fields mentioned above.

During my time at IBM, I realized that my real purpose and life-long career goal was to serve in higher education. I left IBM and began teaching at the University of California, Riverside, my alma mater for my first Master’s degree. When I stepped into my class of 300+ students on the first day, I knew I had found my professional home. I’ve taught in higher education for over 20 years, both in-person and online. Along my higher education career path, I served as the Chair of the business department at a small college in CA. In this appointment, we served students much like the ones we serve here at Berea College.
