Berea College Hosts American Girl Book Event

Kit is visiting Aunt Millie in 1934, when a professor arrives to study Kentucky mountain traditions. Kit is thrilled to help with her research until it becomes clear that somebody doesn’t want “outsiders” nosing around. She decides to find out who’s making trouble… even if it means venturing into Lonesome Hollow in the dark of night.

Hear more about Kit and her friends at the free American Girl Book Event sponsored by the Berea College Store. Registration starts at the Berea College Store then the event moves to the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center for the “Midnight in Lonesome Hollow” book reading and mountain facts session. Admission is free.

There will be a dulcimer and a basket weaving demonstration in the Doris Ulmann Gallery. Berea College students will be working in the Student Crafts on the College Square where you can see them weaving, broom making and producing other crafts.

An optional lunch will be served at historic Boone Tavern Restaurant from 12:45 – 2 p.m. The cost for lunch is $20 for adults and $15 for children under 12.

Registration will be held on April 28 from 8 until 8:30 a.m. The Berea College Store is located at 108 Main St., Berea, Ky. For more information call 859-985-3197 or visit the website at www.Berea.bktstr.com.

Berea College, the first interracial and coeducational college in the South, focuses on learning, labor and service. The College only admits academically promising students with limited financial resources—primarily from Kentucky and Appalachia—but welcomes students from 41 states and 76 countries. Every Berea student receives a Tuition Promise Scholarship, which means no Berea student pays for tuition. Berea is one of nine federally recognized Work Colleges, so students work 10 hours or more weekly to earn money for books, housing and meals. The College’s motto, “God has made of one blood all peoples of the earth,” speaks to its inclusive Christian character.
