Step 1—Apply for FSA ID
The first step students and parents must take is to create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) at https://fsaid.ed.gov. The FSA ID includes a username and password which are required to log into and sign the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid). Students should create their own FSA ID, and parents of dependent students also need to create their own separate FSA ID in order to sign the FAFSA electronically.
Step 2—File the FAFSA
Visit studentaid.gov to file your FAFSA.
Include Berea College as a school you would like to receive your FAFSA. You will need our school code: 001955.Use the “Link to IRS” button to electronically transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA (detailed instructions on how to do so).
Step 3—Review your Student Aid Report (SAR)
The Student Aid Report (SAR) is a paper or electronic document that gives you information about your eligibility for federal student aid and lists your answers to the questions on your FAFSA.
If you provided a valid e-mail address on your FAFSA, you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to access an online copy of your SAR. Typically, you will be able to access your SAR within two weeks of filing your FAFSA.
You can also view or print your SAR by clicking Login on the FAFSA on the Web home page to log in, then select either the PDF or HTML version of the SAR from the “My FAFSA” page.
If accepted to Berea, you will receive an estimate of first-year costs shortly after receiving your acceptance letter. In the spring, you will receive an official financial aid award letter for your review. In addition, you may be selected to verify your FAFSA and our Family Engagement Counselor will be happy to assist you with that process.
