Kula Kusoma – To Eat, To Learn is a monthly luncheon featuring black alumni who return to campus and share their life experiences before, during and after their time at Berea College.
All alumni are welcome to join the campus community at Kula Kusoma. In order to plan for lunch, please RSVP to let us know you’ll be joining us by the Thursday before each event. Kula Kusoma is scheduled at noon, the first Monday of most months during the school year in the Carter G. Woodson Center (Alumni Building).

William E. Cook III ’06
MONDAY, October 1, 2018 – William E. Cook III graduated from Berea College in May 2006 with a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Technology Management. In 2003, he went on to be the Assistant Director for the City of Cincinnati-Recreation Commission. While there, he spearheaded various community activities. In 2011, he became the Talent Acquisition Manager for Omni Group North America. Later he went on to a Senior Recruiting position for Convergys. He is currently the Talent Acquisition Specialist for Staples.
Brianna Rock ’16
MONDAY, April 2, 2018 – Brianna Rock graduated from Berea in 2016 with a degree in African and African American Studies. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Public Health – Community Health Sciences from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans. Brianna most recently served as the project coordinator for the City of Asheville Youth Leadership Academy.
Emmanuel J. Stokes ’08
MONDAY, Feb. 5, 2018 – Emmanuel Stokes has been a visiting professor of music at Berea College and assistant conductor of the Black Music Ensemble since 2016. After graduating from Berea with a bachelor’s degree in music, he earned a master’s in music, with a focus on music education, from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2013. Emmanuel is currently working on his Ph.D. in music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is expected to graduate this year.
Dr. Rachel M. Saunders ’08
MONDAY, DEC. 4, 2017 – Dr. Saunders is an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. After earning a B.A. in Biology from Berea College, she earned a doctorate in medicine from the University of Kentucky and completed her ob/gyn residency there as well.
