COVID-19 Update: May 27, 2021

This is the update for Thursday, May 27, 2021.

Quarantine, testing and vaccination update

No on-campus employees or students are in any sort of quarantine at present.  We are at almost 60% employees who have documented fully vaccinated status.

Kentucky and Madison County update

The Madison County Health Department reported 6, 6, and 11 new cases for Monday, Tuesday, and yesterday.  The number of current active cases is at 59.  Our 7-day average of new cases per day has decreased to 5, keeping us now well into the Yellow Zone at 4.5 new cases per day per 100,000 residents.  The total number of deaths in the county attributable to COVID-19 as reported by the State remains at 111.

Gov. Beshear reported 580, 440, and 421 new COVID-19 cases and 4, 16, and 2 (!) new deaths for Tuesday, Wednesday, and today, respectively, in Kentucky.  The 7-day average of the number of new cases/day has decreased to 410 and the average of numbers of deaths/day is down by one to 7.  The latest test positivity rate has continued to move downward to 2.51%.

Gradual improvement is continuing in the Commonwealth and in Madison County.

Vaccination Exemptions Policy for Students

The Administrative Committee has completed its work on the policy governing medical and religious exemptions to the vaccine requirement for all students.  The policy and forms for requesting exemptions may be found on the policies website.

Vaccination policy at other colleges and universities

As of this morning, the Chronicle of Higher Education lists 422 schools that will require vaccination in the fall.
