
Jack Roush ’64
Jack Roush, a legendary icon in the auto industry and 1964 graduate of Berea College, is one of four 2017 honorees to be inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame on Thursday, July 20, in Detroit, MI.
Roush is chairman of Roush Enterprises and co-owner of Roush Fenway Racing. He is a distinguished automotive entrepreneur and his name has become synonymous with American motorsports. Roush teams have won more than 400 races and Roush Enterprises has become a major provider of engineering and product development services for the auto industry, with clients such as Google and Ford Motor Company. Roush also leads Roush Industries, Inc. employing more than 1,800 people and operating facilities in five states, Mexico, and Great Britain. Primarily known for engineering, management, and prototype services to the transportation industry, Roush also provides engineering and manufacturing for the electronics, sports equipment, aviation and motorsports industries. As a racing team owner, Roush has won championships in NHRA and IHRA Drag Racing, SCCA Trans Am, IMSA GT, and NASCAR stock car racing.
Considered the single greatest honor in the automotive industry, induction into the Automotive Hall of Fame is reserved for noteworthy individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry. This year’s Automotive Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony marks the 50th anniversary of the first ceremony in 1967, a class which included automotive icons Henry Ford, Alfred P. Sloan, William C. Durant, and Walter P. Chrysler.
In addition to Roush, other 2017 Inductees include: Alberto Bombassei, president of Brembo, a worldwide leader in automotive braking systems; August Fruehauf, founder of the Fruehauf Trailer Company, who is credited with inventing the semi-trailer; and Edward Welburn, retired General Motors VP of Global Design who oversaw the designs of the latest Corvette, the revived Camaro, and groundbreaking concepts for Oldsmobile, Cadillac, and Buick models.
