Ron Daley ’72
Ron Daley, a 1972 graduate of Berea College, is a newly-inducted member of the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. Daley was honored for his two decades of experience as the co-founder, publisher, and editor of the Troublesome Creek Times from June, 1980 to September, 2000. Daley helped change the face of weekly newspaper journalism in Kentucky. During his tenure, the Times won more than 320 national and state press awards.
Daley, who continues to write columns and op-ed pieces for local and state newspapers, is an employee of Hazard Community and Technical College and serves as the strategic partner lead at the KY Valley Education Cooperative (KVEC).
Daley co-founded the Troublesome Creek Times with three other Berea College alumni: Daley’s wife, Amy Turner Daley ’73; Mike Mullins ’71; and Frieda Smothers Mullins ’74.
Daley was among nine new honorees for 2017 and will join more than 200 other journalists and news-media executives, who have joined the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame since its 1981 inception. The Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame is sponsored by the University of Kentucky’s School of Journalism and Media and the UK School of Journalism Alumni Association.
