The annual Spring Concert by the Berea College Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, Stephen Bolster, conductor will be held on Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. in Gray Auditorium on the Berea College campus. The choral concert will be accompanied by Lindsay Clavere on the piano. There is no admission charge.
The first half of the concert consists of music celebrating the spring season, including pieces in French by Jules Massenet, Claude Debussy and Lili Boulanger, and a group of Lenten pieces in English by Moravian composer Johannes Herbst.
The second half of the concert begins with Renaissance Madrigals by John Dowland and Hans Leo Hassler performed by the Chamber Singers, and features the “Trois Chansons de Charles d’Orleans” of Claude Debussy performed by the Concert Choir. The concert continues with a group of pieces performed by the Chamber Singers Men’s ensemble, including Stephen Foster’s “Gentle Annie” and Aaron Copland’s “The Dodger” and two compositions for mixed voices by contemporary American composers David Dickau and Eric Nelson. It concludes with three African-American spiritual arrangements, including the famous “My Lord, What a Moanin’” set by Adolphus Hailstork.
