What Can You Do with a Sociology Degree?
Since sociology promotes an understanding of society and people’s interactions with others, it can be beneficial in many careers and employment opportunities. Employers look for people with the knowledge and skills that an undergraduate education in sociology provides.
Although the job market has many set careers in this field, individuals are often able to create opportunities suited to their own unique talents and interests. Having a B.A. in sociology can be helpful in a number of positions throughout the social service, corporate, and government sectors.
Since at its heart, sociology offers an understanding and critique of contemporary social issues, sociology offers valuable preparation for careers in journalism, politics, public relations, business, and public administration–fields that involve investigative skills and working with diverse groups. Many students choose sociology because they see it as a broad liberal arts base for professions such as law, education, medicine, social work, and counseling. The B.A. in sociology is also excellent preparation for future graduate work in sociology in order to become a professor, researcher, or applied sociologist.
