Ashley Cochrane has been named the new director of Berea College’s Center for Excellence in Learning through Service (CELTS). Cochrane’s promotion comes after having served as associate director for service-learning and community service for the last four years. Berea College Receives National Recognition for Community Service
For the fourth consecutive year Berea College has been selected for the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for engaging its students, faculty and staff in meaningful service that achieves measurable results in the community. The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which has administered the honor roll since 2006, honored Berea College as a leader for supporting volunteer and service-learning activities and civic engagement. Rachel Morgan: a goal of selfless teaching
“I came to Berea College to have my faith challenged,” says Rachel Morgan, ‘11. She acknowledges that over the last three years her beliefs have been further refined through interactions with people from all over the world who have made her look at life differently and question her assertions. Citing the Bible as her source of inspiration, Rachel hopes to one day follow the footsteps of those who are truly selfless in their love for others and their devotion to the well being of the society. A psychology major, Rachel coordinates students at Academic Services, represents Berea to alumni through the Berea Ambassadors program, and works for the Center for Excellence in Learning Through Service (CELTS) as a one-one child tutor. Gyude Moore, aide to Liberian president, speaks at Berea convocation on April 14
Berea College graduate Gyude Moore, an aide to Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, will present his talk “Wired to Restore: A Perspective on Service” at a convocation at Berea College on Thursday, April 14.
This presentation is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Auditorium and is free and open to the public. This event is the 2010 Service Convocation, co-sponsored with Willis D. Weatherford Jr. Campus Christian Center and Center for Excellence in Learning Through Service (CELTS).
