Two Berea College Students Selected as Watson Fellows

Berea College students Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz ’22 and Hunter McDavid ’22 have been named Thomas J. Watson Fellows.

The 54th Class of Watson Fellows was selected from just 41 private colleges and university partners across the United States. This year, 42 students were selected from a national pool of finalists in an extremely competitive process.

Three Berea College Students Named Thomas J. Watson Fellows

Berea College students Stephen Nwaloziri, Aloyce (Hans) Riziki and Sophia Winkowitsch have won the prestigious distinction of being members of the 52nd Class of Thomas J. Watson Fellows.

Watson Fellows are selected from just 40 private colleges and university partners across the United States making the Watson pool extremely competitive. This year there were 153 finalists who were nominated to compete on the national level, from which 47 Fellows were selected.

Berea College Student Wins Prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship

The Center for International Education is proud to announce that Berea College nominee Sunaina Sherchan won the national competition for the 2018-2019 Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. The Watson includes a cash prize of $30,000 to provide a year of international discovery for select graduating college seniors in many disciplines.

Prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship Awarded to Berea College Student

The Berea College Center for International Education is proud to announce that Berea College Nominee Zakiyya Ashe won the national competition for the 2017-2018 Thomas J. Watson Fellowship prize of $30,000.

Berea College Student Wins Prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowship

Berea student Moondil Jahan won the 2016-2017 Thomas J. Watson Fellowship prize of $30,000. Berea is the only school in Kentucky from which The Watson Fellowship accepts candidates. Berea College Announces Watson Fellowship Winner

The Thomas J. Watson Foundation has named Berea College student Tuvshinzaya Amarzaya a 2015 fellowship winner. Amarzaya was selected as one of 50 winners out of a field of 700 candidates.

Her project—“Evolution of Cultural and Individual Identity Through Martial Arts”—will take Amarzaya to China, Japan, Brazil, and France to explore how changes in Shaolin Kung Fu, Ninjutsu, Capoeira, and Parkour practices affect martial artists’ sense of self.
