Dr. M. Shadee Malaklou, Chair of Women’s and Gender Studies

Dr. M. Shadee Malaklou, a critical race, gender and sexuality studies scholar, joined Berea College as chair and assistant professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and director of the Women’s and Gender Non-Conforming Center in fall 2019. Malaklou earned her doctoral degree in Culture and Theory and graduate certificates in Critical Theory and Gender and Sexuality Studies from the University of California, Irvine in June 2016. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and Women’s Studies from Duke University in May 2007.

Vandana Shiva to Speak on “Making Peace with the Earth”

Called by TIME magazine as an environmental ‘hero,’ Dr. Vandana Shiva, a physicist, philosopher, feminist activist and director of the Navdanya seed-saving network in northern India, will speak at a Berea College Convocation on March 3 at 3:00 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel. Speaking on “Making Peace with the Earth,” Dr. Shiva will discuss the role that women play in preserving the eco-balance of the world’s food system. Dr. Shiva’s visit to Berea is co-sponsored by the Convocations Program and by the Berea College Women’s & Gender Studies department, which is observing its 25th anniversary during 2016. Carol Browner Presents a Devastating Truth

Carol Browner, currently the Senior Presidential Advisor of Energy and Climate Change in the Obama Administration, recently enlightened the students at Berea College of a startling message—the time for change is now.
