Reverend Michael Jinkins and Dr. Everett McCorvey will address the 260 graduates along with their faculty and invited guests at Berea College’s 2016 Baccalaureate & Commencement ceremonies, Sunday, May 8, 2016. Baccalaureate, at which Rev. Jinkins will speak, begins at 10:30 a.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel. No tickets required. Dr. McCorvey will speak at Commencement, which begins at 2:00 p.m., in the Seabury Center, Main Arena. Tickets must be obtained in advance and are required for main arena as well as overflow seating for Commencement.
Dr. Everett McCorvey was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and attended the University of Alabama, where he received his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. In 1991, Dr. McCorvey joined the University of Kentucky, where he is a professor of voice. Since 1997 he has been the director and executive producer of the Opera Theatre at UK. As a musician, Dr. McCorvey has performed all over the world at venues such as Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, England and in countries such as Ireland, Hungary, Japan, and others. In addition, Dr. McCorvey and his wife Alicia Helm have given master classes, concerts, and workshops, throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America.
Rev. Michael Jinkins is President and Professor of Theology at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Rev. Jinkins, holds a bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University, a M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a D.Min. from Austin Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Theology from The University of Aberdeen in Scotland. In addition to his work in academia, Rev. Jinkins is an author of hundreds of articles and thirteen books, the most recent of which is The Church Transforming: What’s Next for the Reformed Project? edited by Dean Susan Garrett.
