Meeting Ukraine: The Places Between Photographs by Greta McDonough

An exhibition of photographs by Greta McDonough. McDonough is a professor of Social Work at Owensboro Community and Technical College. Though a partnership with social work schools and agencies in eastern Europe, she became aware of the similarities between life in western Ukraine and American Appalachia. These photos of the people and her narrative captions explore some of this comparison.

Artist’s Biography:

Greta McDonough is a travel writer, photographer and essayist. She is the author of Her Troublesome Boys: The Lucy Furman Story, which is taught in schools and colleges in Kentucky, Japan and Czech Republic.

Her writing and photography have appeared in Still: The Journal, Appalachian Heritage, Kudzu, Kentucky Living, and the Motif anthologies. She writes a weekly column featured in the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer.

McDonough is a social worker and professor of Human Services and Social Work at Owensboro Community and Technical College. She travels extensively throughout Europe and Ukraine and writes about her international experiences. She has lectured in the Czech Republic and Ukraine, and consults regularly with Caritas College of Social Work, in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
