The LJAC Gallery is the heart of the Center.
It is a great place to start your quest to learn or teach about Appalachia. Designed as a quickly transformable multifunctional space, it serves as a:
- Visitors center
- Classroom
- Exhibition space
- Student hangout
- Theater
- & Performance hall
Exhibitions in the Gallery
The gallery’s exhibits introduce people to the Appalachian Region. The LJAC Gallery is open to public visitors on weekdays from 8:00am to 5:00pm. The gallery may be closed without notice when in use by courses, special events, or on Berea College Holidays.

Public Programming and Events in the Gallery
The Gallery is LJAC’s educational programming and events space. It is home to our Dinner on the Grounds lunch series, Appalachian Heritage authors’ readings, writing workshops, film showings, and more. Most of our events are open to the college community and the public.

Scheduling use of the Gallery
The gallery can be reserved for use by faculty, campus departments, campus organizations, as LJAC staffing allows. A limited number of reservations are available for non-profit community groups.
- Faculty are invited schedule the Gallery for special teaching sessions related to Appalachia. Teaching use gets priority treatment. If you would like LJAC faculty or staff to interact with your course, please contact us.
- For on-campus users, gallery availability can be viewed using the Outlook system. However, reservations are only taken by email to Heather Dent, Program Associate. 859-985-3140, Heather_Dent@berea.edu.
