The Appalachian Symposium, hosted by Silas House

The Appalachian Symposium is a biennial event that celebrates contemporary literature, with special emphasis on the writers who are celebrating the region which Berea College serves. The Appalachian Symposium offers public conversation, readings, concerts, and writing classes to the public free of charge as a service of Berea College. Our first Symposium occurred in 2015 when we brought in thirty of the most acclaimed and active writers in the region to discuss the current state of literature and Appalachia. Subsequent occurrences of the Symposium will bring in one or two writers each year whose work will be featured and celebrated for two days. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend The Appalachian Symposium. All pertinent information can be found via this website but if you have specific questions please direct them to the director of the Appalachian Symposium, Silas House at houses@berea.edu.

The event is held on the Berea College Campus in Berea, Kentucky.  Click here for information about driving, parking, accommodations, eating, attractions, and more.
