Additional Information

In keeping with Berea’s mission to promote social justice and equality for “all peoples of the earth,” the Carter G. Woodson Center for Interracial Education, the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center, and the Peace and Social Justice Studies program are co-sponsoring the central Kentucky premiere of “Anne Braden: Southern Patriot,” a documentary demonstrating how African-Americans, southern whites and Appalachians work together to undertake our common goal of social justice.

Anne Braden, a white southerner, is one of the “unknown” figures in the Civil Rights Movement. Beginning with her attempt to desegregate a Louisville neighborhood, she embraced a lifetime of racial justice organizing matched by few whites in American history.

“Anne Braden: Southern Patriot” was produced at Appalshop, an Appalachian media activist organization in Whitesburg, Ky.
