PACE: Keep Moving Toward Justice

The first pillar of the PACE program is Poverty. Through this pillar, we will learn about racial disparities in economic conditions and access to opportunities. We will also investigate how environmental and historical factors lead to systemic poverty, primarily in the greater Appalachian region.

The second pillar of the PACE program is Anti-Racism. Through this pillar, we will work to identify and dismantle racism by changing systems, organizational structures, policies, practices, and attitudes. We do this work so that power is shared between racial groups, primarily black and white, as a foundation for building community among all peoples of the earth.

The third pillar of the PACE program focuses on Coalition building. Through efforts to form strong coalitions, we will draw together committed individuals, groups, institutions, and organizations to develop policy and design systems of mutual support to advance the goals of justice and equality.

The final, and most important, pillar of the PACE program is education. We want to provide educational opportunities for students, community members, and organizations for greater understanding of issues of race and equity including both current and historical contexts. Our goal is to keep everyone moving toward justice. PACE is designed to educate our community, produce scholarship, and increase our community’s capacity for justice work. We hope you will join us.
