Country Dance Programs at Berea College

Since 1938, the Berea College Country Dancers have been performing and leading workshops regionally, nationally, and internationally, bringing dances of Europe and the Appalachian region to exuberant audiences, and sharing with them the joy of dancing. The group has toured Denmark, England, Japan, Mexico, and Central America, as well as much of the United States.

Since the beginning of its time, folk dance has been very popular at Berea. At its onset weekly dances were one of the main entertainments for students, and soon after its creation Berea College Country Dancers began to tour. They performed traditional dances in many locations, and they even danced for Kennedy at the White House in 1963.
