Live Green Everyday Tips

Being “green” or “living sustain-ably” doesn’t just mean recycling and turning off the lights when you leave a room. There are many things you can do everyday to reduce your impact on the environment that are easy and fun. Check out the tips below to find out how you can live a little more green everyday. Plants Can Be Pets, Too

They may not be the cuddliest of all creatures (note: if you get a cactus, best not to even try), but plants can spruce up your space and freshen the air.

Keep Your Cool (and Your Warm)

If you can adjust the thermostat in your room, turn the heat to a maximum of 68° and the air conditioning to a minimum of 76°. Adjust the temperature if you’re away and make sure your windows are closed and sealed so air doesn’t leak out.

(Power) Strip

Power strips are great for increasing the number of outlets you have, keeping alliances safe from power surges, and for saving electricity. Just remember to flip the switch off when you’re done using your appliances!

Clean it Up

Vinegar, baking soda, and a few other basic items can go a long way to keeping your dorm room clean and sanitized. These simple ingredients are non-toxic, safe to handle, and cheaper than buying commercially produced alternatives.

Just Recycle It

Keep a recycling bin (or box) beside your trashcan so you remember to sort out what’s recyclable before you throw things in the trash. See the How To Recycle at Berea College page for more details.
