Following a College tradition since 1875, Berea College students will get a day off from classes and labor to experience a day of outdoor fun on Wednesday, Oct. 15 for the annual Mountain Day.
The celebration begins with another tradition on “Mountain Day Eve” concert by the Berea College Wind and Jazz Ensembles on Tuesday, Oct. 14. They will perform in Gray Auditorium (located in Presser Hall) at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Also on Mountain Day Eve, overnight camping will take place beginning at 6:00p.m. at Brushy Fork (weather permitting). Please note that no camping is permitted at the mountain.
On Wednesday, students, staff, faculty, and alumni are encouraged to hike “the mountain” for the sunrise. The Sunrise Hike Celebration includes the Berea College Concert Choir and the Berea College Country Dancers. Shuttles out to the mountains will leave campus from Alumni Circle at 5:00 a.m.
This year’s Mountain Day activities, which are sponsored by the Berea College Campus Life office, include games, music, performances, and contests from 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and of course, hiking in the College forest all day.
