During the first in-person spring commencement ceremony in three years due to COVID, Berea College recognized 260 students. This included 45 students who graduated between 2019-2021. The 215 graduates for 2022 represented 18 different countries.
Guest speaker Geoffrey Canada, globally renowned president and creator of the Harlem Children’s Zone and advocate for education reform, spoke during the ceremony on meeting challenges facing our youth. Soul singer Brian Owens will perform “The Soul of Ferguson” at the Berea College convocation on Thursday, March 15 at 8 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel. This event is a part of the Stephenson Memorial Concert Series.
Raj Patel will speak about “The World That Food Made” at the Berea College convocation on Thursday, March 1 at 3 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel. During the convocation, Patel will discuss the 15th century origins of how we feed the world and suggest a hopeful vision for re-imagining the way food is grown. The convocation is co-sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies and Sociology departments.

Berea College welcomes Rev. Dr. Renita J. Weems, a biblical scholar, academic administrator, writer, ordained minister, and public intellectual who will be the convocation speaker on September 28th at 3 p.m., in Phelps Stokes Chapel. She is known nation-wide as a theologian whose learned perceptions into the Bible and the role of spirituality in everyday life has made her a well-respected speaker and author. 
Berea College welcomes the public and campus community to its weekly convocation this Thursday, September 21, 2017, featuring award-winning poet, playwright, performer, novelist and educator Ntozake Shange. In her presentation, Wild Beauty, Shange will explore the many contradictions people of color confront in their daily lives emotionally, psychologically and politically. Through music and language, Shange approaches her material with delicacy and brutal honesty, leaving the audience with a textured mosaic of what it means and how it feels to be a 21st century colored person who speaks English. This convocation is co-sponsored with Theatre. 
Berea College’s Summer Series of Carillon Concerts opens with a performance by guest artist Roy Kroesen, carillonneur of the Centralia Carillon (Illinois). The free concert will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 7:30 pm (EST) from the John Courter Carillon at Berea College.
