Berea College welcomes the public and campus community to this week’s convocation featuring Berea alumnus Dr. Rocky S. Tuan, a prominent biomedical scientist who will discuss using adult stem cells, 3D printing, and nanomaterial technologies. The convocation will take place Thursday, October 19, at 3 p.m., in Phelps Stokes Chapel.
Born in Hong Kong, Tuan currently serves as the Director of the Cellular and Molecular Engineering Lab at the University of Pittsburgh. His research regarding musculoskeletal biology and tissue regeneration covers science and engineering, and also translational and clinical applications. Tuan directs a multidisciplinary program focused on orthopedic research studying biological activities crucial to the overall development and health of musculoskeletal tissues aimed at developing technology that would regenerate and/or restore function to diseased and damaged skeletal tissues.
On January 1, 2018 Tuan will begin serving as the eighth Vice-Chancellor and President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His six-year term succeeds Professor Joseph J.Y. Sung.
The Berea community is delighted to have Dr. Tuan return to his alma mater to share his insights about adult stem cells and biomimetic scaffolds for skeletal tissue engineering and regeneration involving the repair, renovation, and re-creation of cells in this Berea College Science Lecture.
