Berea College officials conducted a dedication ceremony of the Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health Building on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018. The new 125,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility houses the College’s science disciplines, mathematics and nursing. Nearly 1,000 alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students raised more than $12 million to make the vision for this new facility a reality. Berea Exceeds $10 Million Campaign Goal for New Science/Health Building

Berea College is proud to announce that it has exceeded its $10 million campaign goal for the Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health Building, raising over $12 million in less than two years.  Nearly 1,000 alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students joined together to make the vision a reality. The Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health building will be a 125,000-square-foot facility that will house the College’s science disciplines, mathematics and nursing. As we get ready for the dedication on October 20, 2018, we want to share the stories of those who inspired us and whose gifts made the campaign possible. NASA Scientist Julie Robinson to Speak at Berea Convocation

Dr. Julie Robinson, NASABerea College welcomes the public and campus community to this week’s convocation featuring Dr. Julie Robinson, NASA Chief Scientist for the International Space Station (ISS). In this convocation, the Berea College Science Lecture, Dr. Robinson will highlight how the International Space Station is providing many beneficial discoveries across fields as diverse as astrophysics, nanomaterials, combustion, microbiology, and human physiology. Robinson also will explain how scientists and engineers can access the research ISS facility. This convocation is free and open to the public on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel on the Berea College campus. Berea Breaks Ground for New Science/Health Building

Berea College officials broke ground Thursday afternoon for a new building to house the natural sciences and nursing departments. The structure, to be named the Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health Building, will house Division I, which includes the biology, chemistry, mathematics, nursing and physics departments. Berea’s science departments currently are housed in the Charles Martin Hall Science Building, which was built in 1927 and updated in 1984. It will be transformed for other uses. Berea College Faculty and Students Garner Awards

Dr. Ralph Thompson, recently retired Berea College professor of botany, and 45 Berea College students received awards at the recent 2014 Kentucky Academy of Sciences (KAS) symposium in Lexington.

Dr. Thompson was awarded the “Distinguished College/University Scientist Superlative Award” at the recent Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) symposium. Neuroscientist Presents Mind-boggling convocation at Berea College

Berea College brings award-winning author and neuroscientist Dr. David Eagleman to present his mind-boggling lecture “Incognito: The brain behind the mind” on March 22 at 3 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Auditorium. During this lecture, Eagleman will share vivid examples to explain how three pounds of the most complex material we’ve discovered in the universe acts as “the mission control center that drives the whole operation.” He uses historical references and bits of pop culture to candidly illustrate how the brain gathers intelligence information through small portals in the armored bunker of the skull.
