Berea Wins Division, Earns Top Seed in Conference Tournament

With a 12-2 conference record (21-3 overall), the Berea College women’s basketball team won the USA South West Division to earn a first-round bye and home-court advantage in the conference tournament that began on Wednesday, February 14. The USA South Tournament consists of the top six teams from each division in the conference. Berea will host a quarterfinal game against fifth seed Covenant College (8-6, conference; 14-11, overall) at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Seabury Center on the Berea campus. Lady Mountaineer Candy Walls, ’09 ended her basketball career with a bang. The Stanton, Kentucky native appears in the top 20 NAIA Division II women’s basketball records in six categories. She holds the highest point average per game (26.21) and most three-point goals averaged per game (3.82). She was national player of the week twice and received Honorable Mention All-American honors. National Coach of the Year Named Berea College Women’s Basketball Coach

Trent Milby has been named the head coach of the Berea College women’s basketball program. He comes to Berea after spending the past seven seasons at the helm of the girls’ basketball program at Marion County High School, where he amassed a 208-36 record. This past season Milby led the Lady Knights to an undefeated 39-0 season and a state championship, finishing the year ranked #4 nationally by USA Today.
