09/29/2021: On September 29, 2021 the staff of the Office of Academic Affairs gathered to learn more about the Berea stories and backgrounds of both of our current student workers, Tucker Finch and Zaki Ayoubi. We learned so much about our students, including their favorite books. Our students are a vital part of daily office operations for us. Thanks for all the work you both do!!!

09/21/2021: On September 21, 2021 Sarah Broomfield of the Office of Academic Affairs worked with Jenna Zimmerman of the Center for International Education (CIE), along with student workers from both our office and the CIE in order to complete a Work College Consortium project, Dyeing to Be Green. As part of this project Sarah and Jenna worked with students to dye tablecloths with indigo dye in order to use them at CIE events like TGIF (Think Globally, It’s Friday) and other events. Congrats to them both. Check out these great tablecloths made by Berea students!!!

09/17/2019: On September 17, 2019 Staff from the Office of Academic Affairs gathered together with our labor students, Austin and Nicky, to hear more about their summer travels and internships, as well as their Berea journey. We thank our students for all the incredible work they do! We could not do it without their support.

08/12/2019: On May 1st the Center Directors gathered at Richard Cahill’s (Director of the Center for International Education) farm for this year’s Center Directors Retreat. This retreat allows for planning for Center work for the coming year, and also allows for time to celebrate work well done by each of the Center Directors in the past year. A special welcome to our newest Center Directors, M. Shadee Malaklou (Women’s and Gender Studies Center) and Jessica Klanderud (Carter G. Woodson Center)

06/09/2019: Our office recently gathered together at Susan Vaughn’s gorgeous house to say thank you and goodbye to our beloved colleague, Dr. Chad Berry. Chad has served for the last 8 years as Academic Vice President and Dean of the Faculty. However, beginning July 1st he will no longer be in this role. As part of this celebration of Chad’s hard work for nearly the last decade we gathered for a delicious dinner, fun, fellowship, and even sung a song in his honor. We will miss you, Chad!

05/01/2019: On May 1st the Center Directors gathered at Snug Hollow Bed & Breakfast for their annual Center Directors Retreat. This retreat allows for planning for Center work for the coming year, and also allows for time to celebrate work well done by each of the Center Directors in the past year. This year’s retreat was a special event because it also was the day that it was announced internally that Dr. Linda Strong-Leek would be serving as Provost for Berea College beginning on July 1st, 2019. To celebrate, the Center Directors toasted in her honor and she received a sparkler on her piece of pie. Congratulations, Linda!

07/19/2018: On Thursday, July 19th, 2018 the AVP Office took a yearly retreat to the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky. There, we learned about Ali’s journey to become “The Greatest,” and had a wonderful lunch at Shirley Maes Cafe. While there, Shirley told us where to find the gym, (right down the street from her restaurant), where Ali trained as a young man. Susan Vaughn snapped this photo of most of the AVP Office staff in front of a sculpture erected by the residence of Smoketown near that gym. Not pictured is Jim Strand, who was paying our bill at the restaurant.

There, we enjoyed a hike to Eagle Falls, the views of Cumberland Falls, and lunch at the DuPont Lodge in the State Park. Susan Vaughn and Rob Smith snapped a few great photos during our visit and we wanted to share them here.
